Saudi Supreme Court calls on public to sight Shawwal crescent on Saturday
Saudi Gazette reportRIYADH
— The Saudi Supreme Court has urged Muslims across the Kingdom to observe the sky for the Shawwal crescent moon on the evening of Saturday, March 29, which corresponds to the 29th of Ramadan, according to the Umm Al-Qura calendar. In an official announcement, the court encouraged anyone able to sight the moon — either with the naked eye or using telescopes — to report their observations to the nearest court or seek help from local centers in doing so.
The court also invited capable individuals to join local moon-sighting committees, underscoring the spiritual merit of this act. Participating in moon sighting, it said, is a form of cooperation in righteousness and benefits the wider Muslim community.
This announcement follows the Supreme Court’s earlier confirmation that Saturday, March 1, marked the beginning of Ramadan.
The court concluded by extending prayers for success to those taking part and wishing continued safety and well-being for all Muslims during this sacred time.
