Finding the silver lining | Anne Fleur Slagt | TEDxUniversiteitVanAmsterdam

“Finding the Silver Lining” is a heartfelt and empowering talk that explores how to face life’s challenges with strength and optimism. Sharing personal experiences, especially around living with diabetes, the speakers convey a powerful message: you can still achieve what you truly want, no matter what life throws at you. Rather than letting adversity define them, they choose resilience, acceptance, and determination. The talk inspires viewers to embrace their struggles, reframe them as growth opportunities, and live with courage and purpose. Anne Fleur’s life story is a powerful example of grit, determination, and resilience. She will share her inspiring journey of overcoming chronic illnesses (e.g. Type 1 diabetes, Graves' disease, hives) while pursuing her dream of becoming a public prosecutor. Her experiences offer valuable insights to turn challenges into triumphs and to Own It. Since age 8, Anne Fleur has navigated life with chronic autoimmune diseases, believing that a clear dream and a strong desire to succeed can lead to extraordinary accomplishments. She fought through medical challenges to earn a Master’s degree in Criminal Law and secure a position in the public prosecutor's office, all while competing as a five-time kickboxer. Sports have been crucial in providing her strength and balance. As an ambassador for the Bas van de Goor Foundation, she inspires young people by supporting children with Type 1 diabetes in sports, encouraging them to embrace their challenges. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
