Food,Love and Culture Shock | Zirui Mo | TEDxNACIS Shanghai Youth
This talk reframes noisy Chinese restaurants as cultural expressions of "rènào" (热闹) - joyful communal connection. Through personal anecdotes, the speaker explores how cultural values shape dining behaviors, advocating for "dynamic thinking" to appreciate differences. The presentation moves beyond culture shock to celebrate how Chinese meals prioritize shared happiness, while thoughtfully suggesting balance in public spaces. A fresh perspective on how noise levels reflect deeper cultural values about community and emotional expression. My name is Mo Zirui from 5Oak, I love music and the violin. I am a violinist in our school's advanced orchestra. I am proud of it. I also like reading, street dance, drawing and snowboard. Reading seems to give wings to my imagination, Hip-pop makes me feel my passion and power, drawing makes me feel peaceful, and riding down the mountain makes me feel free. But frankly speaking, my biggest hobby is playing video games, such as Minecraft. I have a dream that I can invent an AI-robot and it can help me to do everything, then I myself can focus on my hobbies. My dad said it’s a wonderful dream, cause fun is the driving force of progress and he expressed all his best wishes to me. So I’m studying hard and hope to realize my dream as soon as possible.
