Through the Lens of Rural India’s Untold Stories | Palani Kumar | TEDxTKMCE

Palani Kumar shares his journey of capturing the vibrant soul of rural India in this talk entitled "Through the Lens of Rural India's Untold Stories". He discusses how his love for his mother inspired him to document the lives of working-class women and marginalized communities. With powerful imagery, Palani reveals societal issues such as caste discrimination and neglect, emphasizing the profound loss felt with each life. His reflections on mentorship and the importance of storytelling challenge us to consider the narratives that remain untold. Palani Kumar is a staff photographer at the People's Archive of Rural India and has received multiple accolades, including the Amplify grant and the Dayanita Singh-PARI Documentary Photography Award. He also served as the cinematographer for the documentary "Kakoos," exposing the harsh realities of manual scavenging in Tamil Nadu.
