Death To Nonchalance | Tiana (Ruotong) Zhang | TEDxValenciaHighSchool

Though to most of the audience, “nonchalance” is simply just a word, my generation has now transformed it into a funny adjective that many aspire to embody. It no longer signifies “not trying”, it now stands for “trying to appear like you’re not”. Because “careless is cool”, and “effortless is cool”.How many do you truly know? Holistically. How many people do you feel you know? Listen to learn how the ridiculous rise of “nonchalance” has affected our ability to connect, and the counterargument to the idea that “effortless is cool”. Tiana Ruo Tong Zhang is a current freshman at Valencia High School. She is passionate about education policy and is involved in the school robotics team, 4470 Tigears. Out of school, she competes in climbing, sails for fun, and creates short videos. In the future, she aims to travel the world. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
