No Labels | Zubda Zia | TEDxKinnaird

In this eye-opening TED Talk, Zubda Zia shines a light on a critical but often overlooked issue in education: the absence of science laboratories in schools. Drawing from her personal experiences and insights as an educator and advocate, she explores how the lack of hands-on learning opportunities is hindering curiosity, innovation, and critical thinking in future generations. With passion and clarity, Zubda makes a compelling case for equitable access to practical science education and challenges policymakers, educators, and communities to act. "No Labs" isn’t just a problem; it’s a call for change. Ms. Zubda Zia-Ur-Rehman is a distinguished academician, mentor, and advocate for women’s empowerment, serving as Head of the Economics Department at Kinnaird College for Women, Lahore, since 2005. Ms. Zia is a SUSI Scholar 2023; she was among the 18 scholars from across the globe to be nominated for the ‘Study of US Institutes’ (SUSI) Scholars Program for ‘US Economy and Sustainable Development’. This six-week-long fellowship was funded by the US Department of State. She is the director of America Pakistan Education Exchange (APEX). Ms. Zia has won various grants. She recently won a Citizen Diplomacy Action Fund (CDAF) grant worth USD 10,000, funded by the US Department of State. She, along with two American scholars, used the grant to work on a project titled ‘Phool Nagar and Kahror Pakka: Voices of the Land’. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
