My journey with multilingual music | Upasna Prasad | TEDxGoodShepherdIntlSchool

Upasana, a passionate singer, speaks of music as the one true universal language. For her, it’s not the lyrics that matter most—but the rhythm, the melody, the sheer energy that makes your feet move and your soul breathe. During the isolating days of the COVID pandemic, music became her lifeline. Immersed in its healing power, she not only found solace but grew—learning to sing in five different Indian languages, each note a step toward resilience and joy. Her journey is a reminder that when words fail, music speaks. Upasna, a passionate music enthusiast from Ranchi Jharkhand, now based in Delhi, believes in the power of music to transcend cultural and linguistic barriers. In this soulful and inspiring talk, Ms. Upasna Prasad, a passionate advocate for multilingual music, shares her personal journey of connecting with diverse Indian languages through songs . With no formal training in classical music, she has mastered Tamil, Telegu , Marathi , Kannada, Bengali, Nepali and Assamese melodies — each a gateway into a new world of emotions and culture. She explores how music transcends linguistic and cultural boundaries, builds empathy, and forges deep human connections. Blending personal anecdotes, neuroscience, and spiritual reflections, Upasna invites us to feel music — not just hear it. Through platforms like YouTube and Saregama Carvaan, she continues to embrace new musical challenges while also contributing to society through her online mathematics tutorials for school students. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
