How does a child with every odd stacked against them not only survive — but thrive? Martha Niño believes the answer lies in the combination of these four powerful words: Hope, Help, Hustle, and Heart. Born into poverty in Mexico and smuggled into the U.S. as an undocumented child — posing as the daughter of a stranger — Martha’s early life was filled with poverty and uncertainty. With little guidance and even getting expelled from high school, her path seemed destined for struggle. But against all odds, and with people she calls BELIEVERS, she built an extraordinary 25+ year career in Silicon Valley, breaking through barriers in hardware, software, and mobile technologies. She became part of the mere 2% of Latinas in the tech industry — a rare and remarkable achievement. For most of her life, Martha stayed silent about her story. In this talk-performance hybrid, musician Lin Shusheng—lead creator of the Yecaoliao Band and an enthusiast of Teochew regional culture—shares how dialect music became his bridge back to his roots. Through reviving childhood memories of Teochew percussion and weaving family narratives into raw, poetic Teochew lyrics, he unravels the threads that connect Chaoshan's traditions to modern life. His music invites audience to feel the soul of a homeland. Even if the Teochew dialect feels foreign, the heartbeat of the land transcends language. Lin Shusheng, lead creator of Yecaoliao Band and Teochew culture enthusiast. In 2013, he founded the band and embarked on a journey to create music rooted in the folk traditions of the Teochew dialect. After 10 years of evolution, the band released their studio album "Meng Zou" (Charge Forward) in 2024, capturing their artistic growth. Once a chip designer, now a devoted practitioner of natural farming, he has made an extraordinary leap—from the world of electronic engineering to pioneering a new way of coexisting with nature. Rejecting chemical-based agriculture, he seeks to revive the wisdom of our ancestors and restore balance to the land.His journey began in 2008, when chronic intestinal issues led him to discover the healing power of nature. Leaving behind urban life, he became a leader in natural farming, only to face a challenging beginning—public skepticism and a lack of industry talent. Yet, as more people across the country search for truly green food and seek freedom from the ‘invisible harm’ of chemical agriculture, his mission has never been more urgent.Despite countless obstacles, he remains steadfast, dedicating himself to spreading ecological awareness and advocating for a return to nature. In 2008, he abandoned urban life to pioneer "zero-chemical farming"–reviving ancestral wisdom of "harmony between heaven and earth". His "Qianyi Farm", now operating 15 bases across 8 Chinese provinces, demonstrates industrialized ecological agriculture with full-process mechanization and biodiversity protection. Recognized as a "National Ecological Farm" by China's Ministry of Agriculture, the project has attracted 100+ young talents to rural revitalization while supplying toxin-free grains to urban families. Named a "Deputy to Hubei Provincial People's Congress", his work has been featured by CCTV, People's Daily, and over 100 media outlets as a model for China's rural renaissance.
