In this talk-performance hybrid, musician Lin Shusheng—lead creator of the Yecaoliao Band and an enthusiast of Teochew regional culture—shares how dialect music became his bridge back to his roots. Through reviving childhood memories of Teochew percussion and weaving family narratives into raw, poetic Teochew lyrics, he unravels the threads that connect Chaoshan's traditions to modern life. His music invites audience to feel the soul of a homeland. Even if the Teochew dialect feels foreign, the heartbeat of the land transcends language. Lin Shusheng, lead creator of Yecaoliao Band and Teochew culture enthusiast. In 2013, he founded the band and embarked on a journey to create music rooted in the folk traditions of the Teochew dialect. After 10 years of evolution, the band released their studio album "Meng Zou" (Charge Forward) in 2024, capturing their artistic growth.
